About

Hi, I am Katerina, aka Eyes On The Cloud.

Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by what lies beyond the borders of my country … I used to lay in maps fantasizing about exotic places (creating an imaginary world, I’m told, is a ‘side-effect’ of growing up in a communism-restricted country), and so 20 years ago after 22hr journey on a coach, I arrived naive and wide-eyed at London Victoria where I got my first glimpse of the outside world.

I blame my parents (as much as they will deny it); they are the culprits who implanted me with this travelling bug. Back then we couldn’t get out of the country which was surrounded by the invisible yet very real iron wall of communism, still we explored to our heart’s content. I remember being as little as 9 or 10yrs old; my parents packed our super duper Skoda to the brim and off we went for a few days, parking up at random camp sites to explore beautiful castles, mountains, meadows, huddling together around a camp fire in the evening.

Travelling has become one of the most important parts of my life and I try to go away as much as possible. You won’t find me spending my life watching it on a TV screen.

Travelling for me isn’t just about collecting travel pins, posting photos on Facebook and looking at pretty sights. It’s about experiencing how other people live around the world and having the opportunity to get a brief insight into all the different cultures; to get an understanding and appreciation of the fact that whilst we all want the same thing – to live happy and safe lives – we have not been given the same predispositions in life.

Travel has made me realise how incredibly lucky I am to live in Europe where everything is at the tip of our reach. You run out of something, you go and get it. We are so used to this state of affairs that we all take it for granted.

Suffice to say that travel has been a steady constant in my life. I still get butterflies before every single trip. If I’m not on the road, I’m planning it, dreaming it …

With nearly 90 countries under my travelling belt, two itchy feet and two wandering eyes on those travelling clouds I am wondering where they will take me this time…
